Tennessee Hunting and Fishing Licenses 1923-1941

Back Tags 1923-1933

Tennessee hunting and fishing licenses were issued as these oilcloth back tags which were to be sewn onto the back of outdoorsman's hunting or fishing vest.  I suppose it was a foregone conclusion at the time that anyone who would hunt or fish would have such a vest.

There are known to exist both County Hunter's Licenses and State Hunting & Fishing Licenses in these back tags.  The top picture is the complete set of state licenses.  The gallery below are individual pictures for those which I have it.  If you have pictures of any others or better pictures of ones I do have and would like to have them included in this website, please e-mail them to me at [email protected].

1940-41 - Note that the number before the dash on the resident hunting & fishing as well as fishing only licenses is the county of issue and used the same county numbers as the automobile license plates of that time.  See chart.
