2021 District Map
On January 1, 2021 the council underwent a major realignment with a "mass merger" of districts, shrinking the number of districts from 16 to 12. The following mergers occurred:
Warioto & Cherokee(partial): Bledsoe Creek District
Upper Cumberland & Black Fox: Caney Fork District
Nashboro & Cherokee(partial): Centennial District
Walton Trail & Hermitage(partial): Cumberland River District
Davy Crockett & Duck River: Frontier District
Dan Beard & Hermitage(partial): Percy Priest District
See the article from the MTC website below regarding the change. Hermitage, Davy Crockett, and Nashboro (renamed from Central in 1976) had been in existence since the 1940s. Dan Beard, Walton Trail & Upper Cumberland had been in existence since the 1950s. The reduction of districts was prompted by several factors, not least of which was the difficulties the Coronavirus pandemic was causing the program.
This was the first time in 45 years that the council had new district names, and they did it with a bang with six new districts. There had only been 7 total new district names prior to this since the mid 1950s. I personally would have preferred to see them keep the names of one of the former districts in each merger. Were it up to me, these would be the names:
Bledsoe Creek: Warioto
Caney Fork: Upper Cumberland
Centennial: Nashboro
Cumberland River: Walton Trail
Frontier: Davy Crockett
Percy Priest: Hermitage
But I do understand that there may be resentment from the district whose name was not used. Anyway, this is what we have. Six new districts and 10 dead ones.
